Member Spotlight: Katlin Smith – Founder & CEO of Simple Mills
Katlin Smith, Founder and CEO of Simple Mills and OSC Core Chapter Member, takes five to reflect on 5 simple questions. Enjoy!
OSC: What is your hometown?
KS: I’m originally from Charlotte, NC and live in San Francisco today.
OSC: What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
KS: I am working on a regenerative garden in my backyard – I’m working on a multi- stone fruit tree, compost, worms, mushrooms, and more. It’s been a huge learning experience so far, but is a lot of fun.
OSC: What is it about the mission of your company that really ignites you?
KS: The whole thing! Our mission is to advance the holistic health of the planet and its people by pioneering the way the world eats, bringing others into the movement, and being a positive force on every part of the ecosystem.
OSC: What’s a favorite childhood memory of food that you have?
KS: I loved making focaccia bread from scratch with my parents. Waiting for the dough to proof. The deliciousness of home-baked bread. Garnishing it with rosemary. Dipping it in olive oil. When I started Simple Mills, I made sure we made a delicious artisan bread mix so others could experience this with whole-food, nutrient dense ingredients.
OSC: What’s one thing that keeps you up at night?
KS: Climate change, pollution, and the disparity between how it affects different socioeconomic groups.
